However...
I LOVE back to school. I get so excited each year when I get to walk into an empty classroom and transform it into a beautiful learning space. For the past two years I taught grade 1, where my room was filled with bright colours and polkadots. I loved my room, but when I learned I would be moving to kindergarten for the 2015 school year I knew I wanted to do something different with my decor.
When DECE and I discussed what sort of learning atmosphere we wanted for our class, we agreed that we wanted a space where the children felt calm, engaged and at home. This meant that the bright colours of my grade 1 class wouldn't do, and over the summer I began to collect natural materials with natural colours.
I'd like to take you on a little tour of our new room! Of course, it is a work in progress, with many empty walls waiting for beautiful decor created by our students.
The science centre created from the long bench that had previously been in the cubby area.
Possibly my favourite area, the Book Nook. This was previously used as a cubby area for students, but they now use hooks in the hallway for their backpacks, jackets and shoes. A comfy, relaxing space to read a good book!
The home centre.
The writing centre, with cards to display words, and clipped frames to showcase our work.
This will be our "Focus Board". It will be used by educators working within our class, and will display our curricular focus, specific student needs, etc. so that everyone is on the same page with the focus for the day.
I hope you enjoyed the tour! Of course our room will change and evolve as the school year goes along...I can't wait to show you more!
